Jane’s Walk
Join us in our second year participating in Municipal Art Society of New York’s Jane’s Walk on May 3–5, 2019. Jane’s Walk is a global festival of free, citizen-led walking tours inspired by urban activist Jane Jacobs, who believed in the power of individuals to influence their city. The festival combines the simple act of exploring the city with personal observations, local history, and civic engagement to encourage people to share stories, discover more about their communities, and connect with neighbors.
We’ll announce the tours that will be participating soon! |

Trump TourJoin the Municipal Art Society of New York May 4–6 for Jane’s Walk, a festival of 200+ free, citizen-led walking tours inspired by urban activist Jane Jacobs. Walks combine the simple act of exploring the city with personal observations, local history, and civic engagement. Now in its eighth year, Jane’s Walk NYC is the largest in the world.
Join us at this year's annual Jane's Walk and get a sneak peek of our Trump Tour before the season starts! The tour will focus on three things. The first is looking into the man himself and his history. He is well connected with organized crime, illicit activity and corrupt dealings. The second is how he, as a symbol for real estate at large, has massively changed New York’s built environment to cater to a billionaire class at the expense of working New Yorkers. The third is looking at the systemic nature of Trump’s rise. |

Open Engagement
Gentrification in WilliamsburgAfter a decade, Open Engagement will hold its final convening May 11-13, 2018 at the Queens Museum and a constellation of sites across the city. OE 2018 will bring together hundreds of artists, activists, educators, students, institutions, and thinkers to take stock of the field of socially engaged art and practice and explore this year’s theme of SUSTAINABILITY. OE 2018 will feature a selection of focused trainings to provide attendees with skills and tools to help better address creative work at the complex intersection of art and social justice.
Join us at this year's tenth and final Open Engagement conference and get a sneak peek of our Gentrification in Williamsburg tour before the season starts! This two-hour long tour of Williamsburg highlights two main themes: Gentrification and Environmental Justice. Williamsburg offers an extreme example of both of these broader themes, and thus makes a very interesting case-study neighborhood in which to delve into these issues. |
